Congrats to the lads for bringing home the 2017 Division 1 Championship for outdoor track. Some historic performances proved that the fireworks were out. Seven D1 Champion spots. Three school records. Five Class Records. Four D1 Championship Meet records.
First, our D1 champions. You’ve read it before: school records are nice, but they are temporary. This team and these athletes below will be 2017 D1 Champions forever.
Jadyn Ruimwijk: Double 2017 D1 Champion in the 100m and the 200m. His 200m (22.05) decisively breaks him out of a school record tie with Eddie Pomerleau ’00. Jadyn dropped his time 0.12 sec. Including last year’s championship meet, Jadyn now holds D1 titles in the 100m, 200m, 400m, and a share of the 4x100m and 4x400m.
Noah Woodman: 2017 D1 Champion in the 400m. I mean, wow. Chris Poggi and Connor Kwiecien, you didn’t quite put that record out of reach. I didn’t write about what Noah did when he set the school record at the Londonderry Invitational – he shot straight through the Top 5 list, going from a 50-point to a 49.21 in one effort. Now at D1, Noah blows away the field by nearly 2 seconds and becomes Pinkerton’s first sub-49 400m runner at 48.74. He also sets a new D1 Championship Meet record, besting Jamie Coughlan of Manchester West in 1998. For those of you still living in a hand time world . . . that’s 48.5 for Noah. Five years ago the school record was still 50-point. Sheee-it.
Colin Bigelow: 2017 D1 Champion in the javelin, at 166’. Colin had set a new PR the week prior at the Londonderry invite at 172’-9”. That effort improved his No. 2 All-Time performance. Reminder – two years ago the school record was 159’.
Adam Spencer: 2017 D1 Champion in the 110m HH at 15.08. As a sophomore. Yes, something happened to heavy favorite Billy Powers, but you *have* to be there to take advantage when someone biffs it. I thought I would never see another Astro at the level of Cody Kretschmer ’02, but Adam is only .05 behind what Cody clocked as a sophomore. Honestly never thought anyone would ever approach that sophomore record.
4x100m team of Evan Rodgers, Kayden Baillargeon, Jadyn Ruimwijk, and Nico Buccieri: 2017 D1 Champions (43.01). That’s a new school record by 0.19s. It’s a new D1 Championship Meet record, just under the Manchester Central boys in 2005.4x400m team of Matt Anzivino, Pat Hanlon, Jadyn Ruimwijk, and Noah Woodman: 2017 D1 Champions. I want to the see the splits, but they totaled 3:23.92, No. 3 all-time for Pinkerton. It’s a new D1 Championship Meet Record, almost 2 seconds faster than the 2008 Londonderry team. The state record (Pinkerton, 2014, 3:23.34) is on notice.
