For the first time in 22 months, Astros were running around the short oval under a roof away from Hackler Fieldhouse. The 2020 New England Indoor Track Championships were the last time Pinkerton participated in an indoor track competition. On Monday, they went back to that same track, the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston. Competing with no collegiate support for New Hampshire facilities, NH high schools are going to get creative.
On the girls side, junior Briana Danis did not waste any precious time this season. In the last outdoor season, Danis set a Pinkerton record in the discus. In her first official indoor competition this season, Briana sent the shot put 34′ – 11″, placing 3rd at the meet. More impressively, she moved into 3rd all time on the shot put performance list, behind only Tiffany Dowden ’01 and Kayla Watson ’15. On the track, keep an eye on Eva Roberts. In her Astro debut she finished the 55m in 7.74, and that is somewhere around 14th all time and 5th for sophomores.
The boys team saw an electric 2 Mile performance from senior Luke Brennan. Massachusetts remains entrenched in the romance of 1 Miles and 2 Miles, and Pinkerton harriers don’t see this distance often. Still, Brennan’s 9:29.20 is up there with some good company. That’s 4th on the list I have, with just Nico Sevilla ’16 (9:25.09), Matt Downin ’95 (9:26.48) and Jeff Reddy ’16 (9:28.18) in front of him. Too bad the Dartmouth Relays are off. The Astros also got a solid early season 300m from Alex LeBlanc in 38.61.
